JAPANESE KOI - THE KING OF ALL COLDWATER FISH

 Koi Carp are amongst the most desired species of all cold water fish in the world, the Japanese Koi carp or Nishikigoi as its known in Japan have found a new found level of fame and popularity since their origins in the mountain farms of Asia in the late 1800’s. Koi Fish are admired and appreciated throughout the world and not just in their Asian birthplace.

Origins of the Majestic Koi Carp  

Koi are amongst the most beautiful, colourful and largest of all cold-water fish kept as pets. The original specimens originated from wild type carp that developed patches of red and white. Although they are known as Japanese Koi, it was actually the Chinese who initially discovered what later would be known as Nishikigoi or the Koi fish. By the 1820’s they were no longer only sold for food, they were now being sold as ornamental fish for people to admire and appreciate.
